Gary Mills has been sacked as manager of Wrexham.

His dismissal on Thursday afternoon means all four major Welsh football clubs have now got rid of the men who started the season in charge.

Mills follows Swansea City’s Francesco Guidolin, Cardiff City’s Paul Trollope and Newport County’s Warren Feeney in heading through the exit.

The Dragons have parted company with former Nottingham Forest player Mills after a woeful start to their National League season that has seen them lose four of their last six, leaving them languishing in 15th in the table.

He had come under pressure following the 0-0 derby draw with Chester last month when his side were booed off the field at The Racecourse.

The club’s fortunes haven’t improved since and Mills has been shown the door just two days before the club travel to Stamford in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

“Our main priority is promotion back to the Football League and we have not made the progress expected towards that aim, falling short of the play off places last season, and currently out of touch with the table leaders with a third of the season already gone,” said Wrexham director John Mills.

“We have therefore made the difficult decision that a change is needed.”

An interim management team of Joey Jones, Dean Keates and Andy Davies is in place for the weekend.
