Williams Narrowly Beaten In China

Lauren Williams bowed out in the quarter-finals of the inaugural World Taekwondo Grand Slam Series in China.

Wales’ European champion was narrowly beaten 11-10 by China’s Yunfei Guo in Wuxi.

Williams had beaten another Chinese fighter – Pan Gao – 32-29 in her opening round contest in the -67kg category.

The 18-year-old from Blackwood was hoping to be inspired by fellow GB fighter Bianca Waken who won the £52,000 first prize in China seven days earlier.

Wales’ double Olympic champ Jade Jones competes for the sport’s biggest ever prize on January 20.
