Welsh Premier Transfer Roundup: Newtown Land Midfielder Damien Allen

Newtown have made secured the services of experienced midfielder Damien Allen, who joins the club from rivals Aberystwyth Town.

Allen, 31, becomes Newtown’s first new summer signing.

Allen joined Aberystwyth last January after ending a seven-year association with Bangor City, having started his career at Stockport County before moving to Royal Antwerp.

Hughes believes Allen’s experience will aid the squad as they look to build on last season’s eighth-place finish in the JD Welsh Premier League.

“Damien has had a good career and brings with him a wealth of experience both in England and in the Welsh Premier League,” he said.

“Technically he is a really good player and will bring a lot of qualities to the club.

“We’re delighted to get the deal done and we look forward to working with him.”

Striker Nick Rushton has also agreed to remain at the club for the coming season, alongside defender Kieran Mills-Evans, and central midfielder Alex Fletcher.

Club captain Craig Williams has signs for a 13th season at Latham Park and Neil Mitchell, JoJo Harries, and goalkeeper Dave Jones have also committed to the Robins for the 2018/19 campaign.

Elsewhere, Connah’s Quay winger Ryan Wignall has signed a new one-year full time contract to remain with the Welsh Cup winners.

Academy scholars Conor Harwood, Joe Sullivan and Dominic Elsey-McHugh have also signed full-time deals with the Nomads, whilst 21-year-old right back, Jake Phillips has joined Bangor City on a season long loan.

Phillips made his senior debut as a substitute in last season’s UEFA Europa League qualifier against HJK Helsinki and Andy Morrison believes the loan move will give the 21-year-old some much needed game time.

“This is a great opportunity for Jake to get some really important game time – he has all the qualities to go far in the game and I’m delighted he has the chance to develop his game at Bangor,” he said.

Barry Town have extended winger Drew Fahiya’s contract for another season. Fahiya made 21 (9) league appearances last term for the Jenner Park side.
