Welsh Fire’s Georgia Redmayne Says She’s Never Experienced An Atmosphere Like The Hundred Before

By Tom Prosser

“The atmosphere at the grounds in The Hundred is something I’ve never experienced before.”

Those are the thoughts of Georgia Redmayne who’s Welsh Fire side fell to a 7-wicket defeat to London Spirit on Tuesday evening.

The Fire set their opponents a modest target of 96 which was chased down with 42 balls to spare.

“We probably were about 30/40 runs light,” explained Redmayne, who top scored for her side with a score of 35.

“It was one of the better wickets that we played on in Cardiff.

“The outfield was lightning so we got really good value for playing shots particularly in the powerplay.

“We were definitely well under par.”

But, whilst results on the field have not been what Redmayne would have wished for, she has still enjoyed her time playing in the first ever edition of The Hundred.

The Australian has a lot of experience playing franchise cricket in the Big Bash but she says her time in time in The Hundred has been quite different.

“The hundred has been different as all the matches are double headers here,” explained the 27-year-old.

“I think that’s worked really well in terms of crowd engagement.

“We play at smaller grounds back home in Australia so I’ve never experienced this type of atmosphere before.

“To play at the biggest grounds in the UK and having them almost full has been amazing.

“The fans support has been great, it’s good that both the men’s and women’s teams are so aligned that is also something that works well in the big bash too.

“It’s hard to compare standard but the way the Big Bash as grown season by season, I don’t see why the Hundred can’t replicate that.”

Off the back of her steady performances in The Hundred, Redmayne has now been called up to the Australia squad for their upcoming series against India

She would also love to make a return to the Welsh Fire in the future.
