Warnock Warns Bluebirds Not To Get Carried Away By Promotion Talk

Neil Warnock insists it is too early to think about promotion after maintaining his unbeaten start as Cardiff City boss.

The 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday made it seven points from three games since he took over from the axed Paul Trollope.

The Bluebirds are back out of the drop zone in 20th spot with 15 points – eight points away from the play-off places.

But Warnock, 67, said: “I’ve been asked about promotion. But I just said: ‘Let’s get out the bottom three first’. We just get carried away, don’t we?

“We’re nowhere near the finished article, but we’ve got a good bunch of players and the fans get behind us.”

“Forest are a good side with some very good players. I was hoping for a clean sheet, but once again we’ve let ourselves down at the death.

“It was a game we should have won comfortably.”

City struck with first-half goals from Aron Gunnarsson and Joe Ralls at the City Ground.

Henri Lansbury pulled a goal back from the penalty spot late on after Forest had Thomas Lam sent off midway through the second-half.

Warnock added: ”I always felt we could score goals and we haven’t scored one in the opening 60 minutes of a game this season until today.

“I don’t know how we didn’t win that by four or five to be honest. We had so many good opportunities today but you can’t get too greedy.

“I thought it was a soft penalty but we hung on and I think we’re getting better. The centre-halves were absolutely awesome.

“At least we’ve got a week without a game now. It’s a great result for us and no more than we deserved.”
