Wales Women got their Six Nations campaign underway with a tense 18-17 victory over Scotland in Colwyn Bay.
Rowland Phillips’ side scored three tries through wings Jess Kavanagh-Williams and Hannah Bluck, on her debut, with Kerin Lake also crossing.
Wales led 13-0 at half-time and 18-5 after Lake’s try, but Jake Konkel’s try brought the visitors to within one point after she added to Chloe Rollie’s brace.
Phillips gave debuts to four players in his starting XV with Bluck joined by lock Natalia John, flanker Beth Lewis, scrum-half Jade Knight.
And the new look Wales squad – who had been narrowly beaten in Scotland the previous season – who dominated the first half.
They got their reward with wing Kavanagh-Williams side-stepping across the line and Bluck with full-back Jodie Evans adding a penalty.
Centre Lake added the third after the break before Wales saw their lead reduced to the narrowest of margins.
Wales’ next game is against England at Twickenham Stoop on Saturday, February 10.
