Wales See Off Thailand To Qualify For Hockey World League Knock-Out Stage

Wales’ Women made hockey history by sealing a place in the World League quarter-finals thanks to a 3-0 win over Thailand in Kuala Lumpur.

Wales, competing in round two for the first time, qualified after finishing second in their pool behind Italy with two wins from three.

Loughborough University’s Beth Bingham and Clifton’s Eloise Laity then struck in quick succession to seal an emphatic win.

Coach Kevin Johnson’s side had opened with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of pool winners Italy.

But they responded brilliantly with a 7-0 thrashing of Singapore followed up be seeing off Thailand to reach Thursday’s knock-out stage.

It gave Wimbledon goalkeeper Rose Thomas a second clean sheet in a row.
