Wales Draw Final Match To Remain Unbeaten Against USA

Wales ended their three game international series against the United States unbeaten after a thrilling 3-3 draw in Spain on Sunday.

Rupert Shipperley and Steve Kelly, who both play for Hampstead & Westminster, and Surbiton’s Gareth Furlong scored the Welsh goals.

Furlong was also on the scoresheet on Saturday when Wales beat the USA 2-1 with Owain Dolan-Gray (Cardiff & Met) also finding the net.

Dale Hutchinson (Breda AC) struck in the opening game on Friday which ended all-square at 1-1.

The win and two draws are a excellent return against a United States side who are ranked 29 in the world, five places above Wales.

Coach Zak Jones will now set his sights on the World League Rd 2 tournament in Belfast from March 11-19th.

Head of Performance Dan Clements had said before the trio of games in Spain that thoughts were on Northern Ireland.

Clements said: “We are really looking forward to World League round 2 and the opportunity for our men’s side to compete against some of the biggest nations in Europe.

“The tournament in Belfast is a very strong field of nations, including recent Olympians Ireland, and our men’s side will be looking to put in some strong performances after a very encouraging 2016.”
