Wales Golf Events Postponed Due To COVID-19 Outbreak

Wales Golf has started postponing events because of the COVID-19 outbreak, with the situation under constant review.

The first two events of the Ping Welsh Junior Tour, due to be held in Mold and Milford Haven in the middle of April, have been postponed. An update on replacement dates will be issued as soon as possible.

The World Handicap System Roadshows which were due to be held around Wales at the end of March and beginning of April, giving clubs the chance to find out more about the new World Handicap System, have also been put back.

Wales Golf is looking at ways of providing that information to clubs in a different way.

The Wales Golf Annual Awards ceremony at Celtic Manor has been postponed, while championships that are currently on, such as the Welsh Ladies Open

Stroke Play due to be held at Royal Porthcawl in May, are also being monitored.
“We are very conscious that this is a hugely difficult time and we need to give people as much certainty going forward as we can in the circumstances,” explained Wales Golf chief executive Richard Dixon.

“The official Government guidance does not require these events to be postponed, but we are aware of the problems around bringing people together and adding to the numbers of people travelling.

“Events are being postponed around the UK with all the national governing bodies keeping a close eye on developments.

“We are looking at making decisions around four weeks ahead of events to give people complete clarity and plenty of warning.”

For the latest news of fixtures and events, please check the Wales Golf website which will be updated regularly.
Wales squad players will be kept informed of developments through social media and email.
