Ethan Gives Wales Fitness Boost But Ben’s Hernia Op Rules Him Out Of Euro 2020 Qualifiers

Aaron Ramsey has not recovered to make the Wales squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary – but Ethan Ampadu has been included.

But Tottenham defender Ben Davies is out of the games having been hampered by a hernia issue which will see him have an operation after Saturday’s Champions League final against Liverpool.

The ex-Swansea City left-back will need several weeks to recover from the surgery.

Ampadu and Ramsey were expected to be missing when Ryan Giggs named his group for the double header away trip, but Ampadu is in a 28-man squad despite a recent back injury.

Ramsey, however, misses out due to the hamstring injury that prematurely ended his farewell season with Arsenal before his move to Juventus.

Both players were not in the 26-strong squad that was called for a training camp in Portugal.

Gareth Bale – left on the bench by Real Madrid for the climax to the La Liga season – has been included, along with three uncapped players.

They are 18-year-old Manchester United midfielder Dylan Levitt, and Barnsley striker Kieffer Moore, who are both in a full squad for the first time, plus Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon.

Wales face Croatia in Osijek on 8 June and Hungary in Budapest on 11 June.

Moore, who qualifies through a maternal grandmother from Llanrug in Gwynedd, scored 19 goals this season as Barnsley secured promotion to the Championship.

Aston Villa’s Neil Taylor and Derby duo Tom Lawrence and Harry Wilson all return having missed the training camp as they were playing in the Championship play-off final at wembley last weekend.

Wales squad: Wayne Hennessey (Crystal Palace), Danny Ward (Leicester City), Adam Davies (Barnsley), Connor Roberts (Swansea City), Chris Gunter (Reading), Chris Mepham (AFC Bournemouth), James Lawrence (Anderlecht), Ashley Williams (Everton), Tom Lockyer (Bristol Rovers), Joe Rodon (Swansea City), Dylan Levitt (Manchester United), Ben Williams (Barnsley), Joe Allen (Stoke City), Matthew Smith (Manchester City), Will Vaulks (Rotherham United), Rabbi Matondo (Schalke 04), Dan James (Swansea City), David Brooks (AFC Bournemouth), George Thomas (Leicester City), Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Sam Vokes (Stoke City), Kieffer Moore (Barnsley), Neil Taylor (Aston Villa), Ben Woodburn (Liverpool), Harry Wilson (Liverpool), Tom Lawrence (Derby)
