Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan will sit down with manager Neil Warnock in London on Sunday to discuss plans for the next two years.
Warnock will take charge of the Bluebirds in their Severnside derby against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday (Noon) and then travel up the M4 for his first face-to-face meeting with Tan since he took charge of the team.
City are still keen to add two or three new players to their squad, with a goalkeeper, winger and striker the priorities, but Warnock is also planning in the long-term.
He has earned seven promotions during his managerial career and has a burning ambition to make it eight. Warnock is keen to do that with Cardiff and he would love to lead the club back to the top flight next season.
Tan has cut back the playing budget over the last few years, but Warnock says: “It’s a matter of talking to Vincent and trying to encourage him to give it another go really.
“We all want to have a go at promotion from this division really and certainly in my circumstances and at my age I’m no different anyone else.
”It’s just great to be able to see him face-to-face, talk to the main man really and tell him about our plans.
“I’m extremely enthusiastic about the club, I think it’s made to measure for me. I hope that we can have a really good conversation about the future.”
Malaysian businessman Tan will not attend the match at Ashton Gate, but he is in London for business meetings and Warnock says: “I think it’s an opportunity for the club as well not just me.
“The club’s got an opportunity to stabilise and look to the future and look to be positive about what could possibly happen next year rather than doom and gloom.
“The opportunity is there, the staff is almost in place and the playing side doesn’t need an awful lot to do with it.
“It’s just a matter of pruning it and the getting that little bit of help to get that one player up front that you need when you get injuries.
“You need a couple of choices.”
Cardiff have had a bid for Aberdeen winger Johnny Hayes rejected and the Scottish Premier League club won’t budge below half a million pounds.
Cardiff have the chance to complete a championship double against Bristol City, having won 2-1 at home. Peter Whittingham and Sol Bamba, on his debut, scored in Warnock’s first match after taking charge.
The Robins expect a hard, physical match, but have signed three players during this transfer window.
The trio – Jens Hegele, Bosnian striker Milan Djuric and Bailey Wright – are all six feet plus tall.
Cardiff City, possible: Murphy, Peltier, Connolly, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett, Gunnarsson, Whittingham, Ralls, Zohore, Hoilett.
