The VELOTHON Wales 110 sportive has officially sold out!
Riders from across the globe will arrive in Cardiff for Wales’ largest cycling event on July 9th to take-on a pair of spectacular routes. The VELOTHON 110, which cuts out the daunting climb up the Tumble, sold its final entries on Wednesday.
The 110 riders will get the full VELOTHON Wales experience – taking in fully closed roads and some of Wales’ most breathtaking scenery – but only half the elevation of the daunting 140km course.
Entries are still open for the full 140km route.
Nigel Russell, Event Director, VELOTHON Wales commented: “We’re delighted to announce the 2017 VELOTHON Wales 110 sportive has sold out.
“We want cyclists of all abilities to be able to take-part in what promises to be an unforgettable day, and have been encouraged by the take up for the 110 route amongst less experienced riders and first-timers. The interest and support from riders, local communities and authorities has been fantastic as we aim to deliver an unforgettable event next month.”
Those taking on the 110 challenge will join around 10,000 cycling enthusiasts and a host of the world’s best professional riders on the start-line in Cardiff city centre on Sunday 9thJuly.
Riders will leave Cardiff to the east, heading through Newport and Usk before turning south towards Pontypool and Newbridge on their way to Caerphilly for the only climb up the stunning Caerphilly mountain, before finishing with a fast descent towards the finish line, in the heart of the iconic Welsh capital.
Although the short course route has been altered slightly to alleviate a road closure pressure point, and is now slightly longer than the originally advertised 110km, the cut-off point is commensurate to the actual length of the course, and the elevation remains at half that of the 140km route and appeals to everyone, whatever their goal or fitness!
There is still time to sign-up if you believe you can overcome the challenging 140km route. Beat the Tumble before climbing Caerphilly mountain and heading back down to Cardiff for a sprint finish.
