Ffion Tynan led the way as Wales golfers took three of the top four places at the Henry Cooper Junior Masters Girls in Nizels golf club in Kent.
The Pontyclun schoolgirl underlined her status as one of Wales’ top young golfers as she took a five shot lead into the final round and sensible golf saw her preserve that lead, with a competitive race behind her for second.
Australian Isabelle Simpson was runner-up, with Welsh pair Harriet Lockley and Darcey Harry in third and fourth respectively.
It was perfect preparation for Tynan and Harry as they prepare for this week’s Junior Vagliano Trophy, representing Great Britain and Ireland against the Continent of Europe, at Royal St George’s.
The Henry Cooper Junior Masters is one of the top events in the UK for Under 18’s
“This is an excellent performance at one of the most prestigious events in the UK at their age group,” said Wales Golf Director of Performance Gillian O’Leary.
“It is another fine win for Ffion, but it is also encouraging to see three Wales players at the top of the leaderboard so it is another important step for Harriet and Darcey as well.”
Tynan put together a solid series of rounds, with two 73’s and a 74 before a final round 76 was enough to seal a comfortable victory.
Lockley closed with a 74, the second best round of the day behind a 71 for Simpson, while the highlight for Harry was an opening morning 73.
Now all eyes will turn to Royal St George’s. The GB&I team have never won the Junior Vagliano Trophy so the two Wales players have the opportunity to be part of turning that round.
