Tutton Storms To Victory On European Championships Debut

Chloe Tutton made a superb major championships debut as she stormed into Tuesday night’s European 100m breaststroke semi-finals.

The teenage sensation showed no nerves as she won her heat at the Olympic pool in London.

Tutton, 19,  clocked one minute 07.92 secs to beat British team-mate Molly Renshaw by over half-a-second.

The Rhondda-born swimmer’s time was just 0.15secs outside the best she set earlier this year.

And it was fourth quickest overall with Lithuania’s Olympic champ and world record holder Ruta Meilutyte quickest in 1:06.97.

Tutton shot to prominence at last month’s British Championships when she shattered the British 200m breaststroke record to win the title.

That earned the Cardiff-based swimmer a dream selection for this summer’s Olympics in Rio.

Tutton’s fellow Cardiff swimmer Ieuan Lloyd was third fastest in his 200m individual medley heat clocking 2:01.72 to reach his semi-final
