Cardiff City manager Paul Trollope has paid tribute to the scoring prowess of Joe Ralls and Anthony Pilkington – but still wants to buy more goals.

Trollope saw the pair finally end the club’s wait for Championship goals from their own players as both fired home in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Fulham.

After own goals had given the Bluebirds the points against Blackburn Rovers, and blanks fired against QPR and Birmingham, Trollope said: “I’m pleased with the two goals, they were fantastic strikes, but I was disappointed not to have taken the three points as we led going into the 86th minute.”

Now, Trollope will press for funds in order to bring in additional firepower before the transfer deadline closes at the end of August.

He added: “At the moment we are showing good quality in either half. We have to put that together in both and find that consistency. But I still want to strengthen. It’s no secret we are looking to strengthen in the transfer market.”

Kevin McDonald preserved Fulham’s unbeaten start to the Championship season with a late equaliser.

Cardiff trailed to 16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon’s opener before two fine strikes from Ralls and Pilkington turned this game on its head.

However, new summer signing McDonald struck with four minutes left to earn Slavisa Jokanovic’s side a deserved point and extended their impressive start to the new campaign.

Trollope added: “It was a topsy turvy game. We were disappointed with the first half.

“We were passive with and without the ball. We didn’t play to our capabilities but we turned it around. Credit must go to the players. They knew they were better than they had showed.

“We judge ourselves on our own standards and our own play. It wasn’t functioning and we were flat. But we showed good mental and physical strength and we managed to get on the front foot.”
