Kayne McLaggon led the Martyrs’ charge in their storming Southern League recovery in Bedfordshire.

The home team were 2-0 ahead after 35 minutes, but Merthyr Town big back with a ferocity which swept them to victory.

This victory kept manager Gavin Williams and his team in fourth place and on course to qualify for the play-offs.

McAllen scored twice and took his League tally for the season to 17 with Jarrad Wright, Ian Traylor and Corey Jenkins also scoring in a Merthyr team full of spirit and character.

The next test for Merthyr is against Weymouth at Penydarren Park next Saturday (3pm).

Rhys Hoeness struck two first half goals for Biggleswade, netting after eight minutes and again on 35 minutes.

McLaggon pulled one back just before half-time and Merthyr took control in the second half.

They find four goals in the last 20 minutes to earn a convincing victory with substitutes Traylor and Jenkins netting with late strikes to complete the victory.

Leaders Chippenham won again, 1-0 at home against Dunstable Town thanks to a David Pratt penalty, to stay clear in the Southern League Premier and with only one automatic promotion place available it seems Merthyr are destined for a play-offs finish.

They do, though, travel to play Chippenham on Saturday week what will be a fiercely contested match.

There are eight regular season fixtures left for Merthyr Town they are intent on finishing as strongly as possible to keep their promotion  dream alive.

Jarrad Wright (70), McLaggon (76), Traylor (87) and Jenkins (91) had Merthyr’s travelling fans cheering as their team won.
