LLANELLI KNIGHTS 16 TORFAEN TIGERS 62
By Ian Golden at Stebonheath Park
Torfaen Tigers won their second game in a row in the Welsh Premier League but they were given a scare in the first half by a competitive Llanelli Knights side, playing in the first game at senior level after replacing West Wales Raiders in the competition.
Llanelli made the best possible start when an Aaron Lewis try and goal gave them a 6-0 lead.
However their advantage didn’t last long. Torfaen soon levelled with a Matt Williams try and Dai Thomas goal before Watkins then put them into a 10-6 lead and Thomas converting.
Brett Thomas soon added a third for the visitors to make it 16-6 before Morgan Knight claimed Tigers’ fourth making it 20-6.
But Llanelli fought back before the break. Lewis got his and Knights’ second to bring them back into the game before Ben Phillips went over just before half-time. Lewis’ goal brought the score back to 20-16 at the break.
Torfaen showed their class after the break. Knight quickly went over, then Rhys Davies, Jared Hinnem and Darrel Moyle, all converted by Dai Thomas to make it 44-16 on the hour.
A Josh Symonds try converted by Thomas brought up the half century. Matt Williams and Rhys Davies both ran in unconverted tries before Hinnem’s second completed the rout.
