Roger Thomas gave his newly acquired Ford Fiesta RX Supercar its competition debut at the Welsh Motorsports Centre at the weekend, finishing a flying fourth in both the double-header Toyo Tires Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship races.
The Penrhiwllan driver had brought the ex-Global Rallycross car over to West Wales from the USA, where it had been driven by former rally star Patrik Sandell.
After a brief test at Pembrey on the eve of the event, Thomas’ pace increased over the course of the two day race meeting, as he set some highly competitive lap times in the stunning black HT Installations-backed machine – beating the likes of the vastly experienced Steve Hill (Thame) and Andy Grant (Barnstaple) in the dusty Saturday and rain-hit Sunday finals.
Thomas’ 16-year old son Archie Thomas also did well, finishing both of the Junior RX races in his 1300cc Suzuki Swift.
Julian Godfrey (Heathfield) and Derek Tohill (Dublin) claimed a win apiece in the third and fourth rounds of the British Rallycross Championship at Pembrey, and now hold a joint points lead at the mid-season point of the eight-race series.
The British Rallycross Championship returns to Pembrey on 21/22 September.
