Tesni Evans has won the North East Wales Squash Open for the second time in three years.

World number nine Evans, who lives in Rhyl, has had a sensational 2018 on the professional tour, but still makes time to support squash in Wales.

The British champion is an ambassador for Squash Wales, a leading figure in the Welsh Wizards Premier League team and played a major role in ensuring the inaugural Bangor Women’s Classic tournament was a success this year.

The Classic attracts some of the World’s leading female players and it has already been decided the tournament will go ahead again next year.

Evans entered the North East Open and won the Sue Charlesworth Memorial Trophy, beating fellow professional Rachel Chadwick from Neston, Cheshire in the final.

This was the third year of this tournament at Deeside Leisure Centre with Evans (2016) and Chadwick (2017) the previous winners.

Evans won against Welsh Layne Beattie and Hannah Davies on her way to the 2018 final, while Chadwick defeated Lowri Roberts in her semi-final.

It was Evans who took command in the final, lifting the trophy with an 11-3, 11-5, 11-4 win.

Cardiff’s Elliott Morris-Devred, another Welsh Wizards player, won the men’s A event, beating George Thomas 11-4, 11-4, 11-9 in the final.

Morris-Devred defeated Adam Pritchard in the last four 11-9, 11-4, 11-3, while Thomas won 8-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4 against Jonathan Davies.

Lewis Barlow emerged winner of the men’s B title, winning 10-12, 11-6, 13-11, 11-2 against Nick Parks, while Eddie Filer lifted the men’s C crown.

Filer came out on top 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 against Will Silvester.

PSL team Wizards, who have won two of their first three matches in their first season at the top level, are back in action on Tuesday, November 27 when St George’s are visitors. 

The match, at Sport Wales National Centre, is already sold out.
