The New Saints chairman Mike Harris is confident fans will back the club’s decision to play their home European matches this season at Shrewsbury Town’s Croud Meadow Stadium. The Saints are set to embark on their historic European football campaign with the League One club as their base.

Flanker Alex Callender has been named as the Welsh Rugby Writers’ Association Wales Women’s Player of the Year. Callender, who has been capped 38-times by Wales, was on the shortlist with Wales captain Hannah Jones and GB Seven Olympian Jasmine Joyce.

Sam Northeast has been hailed as Glamorgan’s matchwinner after the batsman’s vital contribution ensured the county lifted the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. Northeast hit 63 not out as Glamorgan beat Somerset in the final at Trent Bridge to lift the trophy for the second time in four years.

Wales Golf have paid tribute to Brian Huggett as a legend of Welsh sport, who played a big role in bringing the Ryder Cup to Celtic Manor in 2010. Huggett has passed away at the age of 87, with tributes pouring in from the world of golf.

It may have ended as a weekend to forget for Cardiff City supporters, but Saturday began very much as a day to remember. The man held in remembrance, by fans of both Cardiff and Leeds United, was Sol Bamba, who passed away three weeks ago at the age of 39, following a battle with cancer.

Dragons coach Dai Flanagan said he was “super proud” of the character his players showed to secure a final play 23-21 URC victory over the Ospreys at Rodney Parade. The game seemed done and dusted when the visitors led 21-13 three minutes from time with their opponents down to 14 men following a yellow card for hooker James Benjamin.

Cardiff City are being linked with a move for James Rowberry as their new manager following their decision to sack Erol Bulut. Rowberry is currently working as head of elite coach education for the Football Association of Wales and was last month also appointed as one of Wales national team manager Craig Bellamy’s assistants.

Luke Williams insists he needs around a dozen matches to decide whether or not Swansea City are going to be a force in the Championship this season. The Swans head coach praised his team after they earned their first away points of the season – a 2-1 victory at Coventry City – which moved them up to seventh in the table. But Williams believes his side needs more road-testing for him to determine whether they are any good – or if opponents so far have been bad.

Alex Callender picked up her award as the Welsh Rugby Writers’ Association’s player of the year ahead of Wales’ departure for WXV2 last night to give Ioan Cunningham’s squad another boost ahead of their latest tournament. Callender missed out on Friday’s historic first win over Australia at Rodney Parade as head coach Cunningham continued in his bold bid to grow the strength of his playing pool.  In Callender’s absence it was another back rower, Kate Williams, who stole the show.

Toby Booth insists it will be business as usual for him as he embarks on his fifth and final season as head coach at the Ospreys on Saturday. The Englishman will be leaving at the end of the campaign with Mark Jones stepping up from defence coach, a role which will in turn be filled by club legend Justin Tipuric.
