Doctors Orders As Medicine Student Kathryn Gets GB Call

Kathryn Greenslade has been named in the GB students swimming squad for this summer’s World University Games in Italy.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist is Wales’ sole representative in the 14-strong party that will head to Naples for the Summer Universiade from July 3-14.

Preston-born Greenslade is a medicine student at Edinburgh University.

It will be the 21-year-old’s second University Games having reached the semi-finals of the 200m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke in Taipei two years ago.

Greenslade anchored the Wales quartet that won the bronze in the 4x100m Medley Relay on Australia’s Gold Coast last year as she, Georgia Davies, Chloe Tutton and Alys Thomas pipped England on the final night of swimming.

Team Leader Adam Clarke said: “The World University Games is the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympics, and a great opportunity for British swimmers to compete on the world stage.

“The team we have nominated to represent British University and College Sport is packed with a wealth of experience, with 11 of the team in action for their home nations at last year’s Commonwealth Games, and four athletes making their second Summer Universiade appearance.
