Swim Wales have announced their National Squads for 2017/18 and included 125 athletes from Senior Elite down to Skills Academy.

National Performance Director Ross Nicholas has nine top-flight swimmers in his Senior Elite group, led by double Olympic silver medallist Jazz Carlin, and there are eight up and coming hopefuls in the Elite Development squad.

“We are delighted to announce the selection of 125 athletes across our National Squad Performance Pathway for the 2017/18 season and look forward to supporting this group of athletes in fulfilling their potential as performance swimmers,” said Nicholas.

“It is exciting to see such a fantastic range of talent throughout the pathway and across disciplines – from Olympic, World and Commonwealth medallists in our Senior Elite squad through to top GB ranked juniors in our Elite Development, Youth Development and Skills Academy squads.”

Para swimmers Alex Rosser and Jack Thomas are included in the Senior Elite squad with Chloe Davies chosen in the Elite Development Para group. It will be from the top two groups that Swim Wales will nominate their team for next year’s Commonwealth Games on the gold coast.

All medallists from Glasgow in 2014 are still in contention for another trip – golden girls Carlin and Georgia Davies and bronze medallists Daniel Jervis and Calum Jarvis. In addition, Senior Elite Squad members Xavier Mohammed, Chloe Tutton, Ellena Jones and Alys Thomas were also in Team Wales in 2014.

Pior to heading to the Gold Coast the Welsh swimmers will get the chance to compete at the British Championships in Edinburgh on 1-4 March. It will be a major event, coming at the mid-point in the cycle between Olympic Games.
