Swansea City are in talks to sign Ecuador striker Miler Bolanos from Brazilian club Gremio.
If the deal goes through then Bolanos – valued at around £6m – would become the second Ecuadorian at the club, alongside his international teammate Jefferson Montero.
The winger began the season in magnificent form, but his performances trailed off as Swansea struggled through the autumn and he has recently found himself out of the starting line-up.
Bolanos was linked to Swansea during the January transfer window before Italian Alberto Paloschi arrived in an £8-million deal.
The South American has netted six goals in 12 Ecuador appearances and moved to Gremio from Ecuadorian side Emelec, where he scored 61 goals in 105 games over three years.
Championship promotion hopefuls Brighton were previously heavily linked to the 25-year-old, alongside Gremio’s Brazilian rivals Corinthians, over the winter.
Ecuador sit top of the South America qualifying table of 10 teams for the 2018 World Cup, the only side to have won all four of their opening matches.
Swansea head coach Francesco Guidolin has stressed that the club needs to sharpen its goal-scoring threat, although whether the Italian will still be in charge at the Liberty Stadium next season remains to be seen.
Italian Paloschi – signed from Chievo – has only scored once since he arrived in Wales, while French striker Bafetimbi Gomis has hit the target only six times all campaign and just twice since August.
