Swansea City have signed Slovenian striker Zan Vipotnik on a four-year deal.

The club were in desperate need of strengthening their forward resources ahead of the new Championship season and have recruited a 10-cap international who played at this summer’s Euro 2024 finals.

Vipotnik has joined after his contract with Bordeaux ended.

The French club recently dropped to the third tier and gave up their professional status because of financial problems.

As a result, the club ended many player contracts to save money, enabling the 22-year-old Vipotnik to join Swansea for free.

The striker, who has played 10 times for Slovenia, came on as a substitute in his country’s 1-1 draw with Serbia at Euro 2024 in June.

He scored 10 goals in 37 games for Bordeaux in his only season there.

After leaving Bordeaux, Vipotnik wrote on social media: “Heartbroken to say goodbye under these circumstances.

“My time at Bordeaux has been nothing short of incredible, thanks to this amazing club and the passionate fans who welcomed me with open arms.

“It’s devastating to see the club facing such challenges, but I believe in the spirit of Bordeaux and I know it will rise again.

“Until we meet again.”

This signing is a big boost for Swansea, who have few forward options after Jamal Lowe and Jerry Yates left this summer. Yates joined Derby County on loan.

Liam Cullen and Ukrainian Mykola Kuharevich are the only other senior strikers at the club.
