Steyn To Be Glamorgan’s Blaster

Steyn To Be Glamorgan’s Blaster

Dale Steyn will be confirmed as Glamorgan’s new T20 Blast signing on Friday morning.

The South Africa fast bowler has been playing in the Indian Premier League and will be there for another week, but he will then join up with Glamorgan on a short-term contract.

Steyn should then be available for their first Blast fixture against Surrey on 26 May.

He told the Times of India: “Hopefully, I will have my chance next month having been offered a short contract with Glamorgan in the English T20 which starts this week.”

Steyn, considered one of the greatest pacemen of his generation, alerted the cricket world to Glamorgan’s interest in him nine days ago by tweeting out ‘Any good fishing spots in Glamorgan?’

The 32-year-old, who has made 236 appearances for South Africa across all formats of cricket, including the 2016 T20 World Cup, has taken 406 Test match wickets, one of only 13 bowlers to break the 400 mark.

South African duo Morne Morkel and former Glamorgan bowler Wayne Parnell had been both on Glamorgan’s radar but both have been included in a Proteas one-day squad for the triangular series in the Caribbean in June.

Steyn was a notable omission as South Africa take on the West Indies and Australia. Steyn could arrive in time for the opening T20 match in London next Thursday with the first home game against Essex in Cardiff three days later.
