Ali Loke won her all-Welsh first round tie at the $18,000 Monte Carlo Classic as she beat Nia Davies.
The Cambridge-based player triumphed 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 in 27 minutes against her compatriot from Haverfordwest.
Loke was expected to win the match given her current world ranking of 104 – just down from last month’s career high 100 – against Davies who is 201st in the latest PSA World Tour rankings list.
The 25-year-old is the second highest Welsh player on the women’s list behind d world ranked No 9 Tesni Evans.
Evans is seeded two for the Monte Carlo event and as such has received a first round bye.
