Tesni Evans will be looking for a belated birthday present when she returns to the court in New York.
The Rhyl-based squash ace turned 26 on Monday just days after becoming the first Welsh woman to reach the semi-finals of the US Open.
Evans is back in action on Friday at the Carol Weymuller Open in Brooklyn where she is seeded No 4.
The Cardiff-born player was handed a bye in the first round and will face Zeina Mickawy in the second round.
Egyptian Mickawy dispatched South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller 11-5, 11-4, 13-11 in their first round match.
Evans, who looks set to improve on her career high world No 12 ranking after her US Open run in Philadelphia, will be aiming for another strong performance in New York.
Also in the field are England’s No 2 seed Sarah-Jane Perry who Evans beat for the first time to reach the semi-finals last week having also beaten Joelle King of New Zealand.
Top seed is Egypt’s world No 3 Nour El Tayeb who suffered a shock defeat to unseeded American Amanda Sobhy in Philadelphia.
