Seb Steps Into Autumn After Summer Surge

It has been quite a week for rising second row star Seb Davies with a new contract at Cardiff Blues being followed by a call-up for the Welsh squad for next month’s Under Armour Series.

Despite being courted by a number of clubs, the Cardiff-born and bred lock has committed his long-term future to the Blues by signing his first senior contract. His signature follows those of two other Wales Under 20 caps, Rhun Williams and Corey Domachowski.

“I’m really happy to have signed a senior contract with Cardiff Blues. They are my home team and I have come through the system here,” said the 21-year-old former Ysgol Glantaf and Coleg Y Cymoedd product.

“I’ve really enjoyed the last few months and have been pleased with the game-time I’ve had. I feel I’m making good progress within this environment and look forward to contributing in the years ahead.

“There is so much potential here and we have so many young, quality players coming through – I really wanted to be part of that so it was an easy decision to make.”

Capped by Wales at Under 18 and Under 20 levels, Davies made his senior appearance on the summer tour to New Zealand and Samoa. His debut came in the win over Tonga in Auckland and he then helped Wales to win in Samoa as well.

Now he has been included as one of five second rows in the Wales squad for the games against Australia, Georgia, New Zealand and South Africa, putting him in line to face up to such world class locks as Sam Whitelock, Eben Etzebeth and Rob Simmons.

Davies made his senior debut against the Scarlets in the Anglo-Welsh Cup three years ago and has since made 23 appearances for the Blues. He could find himself opposing one of his Welsh squad mates, Jake Ball, in the regional derby against the Scarlets.
