Rhys Healey aims to show Paul Trollope that Cardiff City need him by scoring goals at Newport County.

The young striker plays his first match for County on Saturday at home to Barnet in League Two.

It is an opportunity for the 21-year-old to prove to Cardiff manager Trollope that an answer to his goal-scoring problems may have been under his nose all along through the opening weeks of this season.

But, instead of giving Healey his chance, the Manchester-born forward has been loaned out to Rodney Parade – 18 months after the same switch was held up by FIFA loan rules.

“I want to impress Paul Trollope at Cardiff by coming here, getting game time and scoring goals,” he said.

“I made my debut two years ago but it has been hard with strikers coming and going. As a young up and coming player it has been difficult and the best way I can show that I could play there is come out to the likes of Newport and play well and show Paul Trollope what I can do.

“It’s good for me to go out on loan and prove to them that I do deserve my chance.”

Healey made one appearance off the bench for the Bluebirds – against Chelsea two years ago – but has since had to make do with loan spells at Colchester United and Dundee.

“I’ve travelled quite a bit but now I’m only half an hour away from my base in Cardiff it’s a lot better for me,” he added.

“The manager wants me to enjoy myself and play football without any pressure and I can’t wait to get going.

“I’m ready to start and I want to bring goals to the team.”

Newport, who currently lay 18th in the table, are yet to win a home match this season and have picked up only one victory so far, away to Leyton Orient.
