Clinton Purnell is relishing the prospect of competing in his third Commonwealth Games for Wales.
The Rhondda gymnast maded his debut in Delhi eight years ago.
And despite battling an injury before and during Glasgow in 2014, Purnell – who was Wales captain – took a fifth place in the floor exercise.
The 28-year-old then suffered a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his bicep after Glasgow, but is ready for his Gold Coast adventure which starts on April 5.
“I was quite last minute with my training before Glasgow, trying to recover quickly and just made it in time,” said Purnell.
“This time I have been preparing with the team for the past year so I should be a bit more ready than in Glasgow.
“In Delhi it was all a bit new to me but I got sixth on the vault which was a really good personal achievement.”
Purnell helped Wales finish fifth in the Team event in both Delhi and Glasgow and at least equalling that is the target in Australia.
He added: “With the way our preparation has gone we could possibly improve on that. We’re quite hopeful. The team is young and string and everybody is hitting really top form.”
