Run 4 Wales will launch a new race next year with the inaugural Porthcawl 10K which will take place on Sunday 7th July.
The latest addition to the Run 4 Wales 10K Series will initially run for three years in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council.
Around 3,000 runners of all ages and abilities are expected to take part in the brand new race, which will feature striking views across three stunning bays and take in all of Porthcawl’s iconic landmarks.
The route devised by double Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace starts on the esplanade before adventuring through all of Porthcawl’s most iconic landmarks, including the famous Porthcawl Lighthouse, Coney Beach, surf spot Rest Bay and Trecco Bay.
A festival of running will also take place to give the next generation of runners an introduction to mass-participation events by offering a 3km family fun run and a toddler dash for children taking their first steps at a major race.
Run 4 Wales Chief Executive Matt Newman said: “We’re delighted to announce the Porthcawl 10k in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council. As well as boosting the local economy, the event will make a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of the local community.
“We were determined to build on the success of the inaugural Run 4 Wales 10K Series, and Porthcawl is the perfect destination for runners who want to achieve their own personal fitness goals on a course that showcases the very best of Porthcawl.”
The Porthcawl 10K will be the third stop on the Run 4 Wales 10K Series which also includes the Cardiff Bay Run, ABP Newport Wales 10K and Barry Island 10K.
Councillor Charles Smith, Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration said: “Hot on the heels of the Senior Open Golf Championship and the Urdd Eisteddfod we are really keen to host more events that can raise he profile of Bridgend County Borough and attract more visitors.
“The success of the first Barry Island 10K in August has shown us the potential for Porthcawl. Around 3,500 runners signed up for that event from all corners of the country. This route showed off the resort’s most scenic spots while they also held a one mile family fun run and toddler dash.
“As well as generating a lift for local tourism, events of this nature also bring with them a fantastic feels food factor, with runners raising money for numerous good causes. Porthcawl already has an extremely popular Parkrun every Saturday morning and we’re looking forward to the challenge of establishing the Porthcawl 10K.”
Porthcawl 10K entries will start from just £20 and include chip timing, a technical event t-shirt, finishers medal, finish time pacers in every wave and use of a live tracking app.
Registration for all races is now open, with season tickets and multi-event passes available to those looking to sign up for more than one race.
Season tickets, granting access to all four races in the Run 4 Wales 10K Series are priced at £80, a saving of £17 versus entering individually).
Three event pass, granting access to three races in the series are priced at £63, allowing a saving of up to £12 versus entering individually.
Two event pass, granting access to two races in the series are priced at £44, allowing a saving of up to £6 versus entering individually. There are only 1,000 multi-event passes available on a first-come, first-serve basis. These are expected to sell out fast.
