Omoregie Gutted As He Bows Out Of World Champs

David Omoregie’s hopes of making an impact at the World Championships ended as he failed to qualify for the 110m hurdles semi-finals on Sunday night.

The ex-Pembrokeshire Harrier who now competes for Cardiff finished sixth in his first round heat at the London Stadium.

Omoregie’s time of 13.59seconds saw him miss out on the semis later as he was left to rue an untidy run over the hurdes in the morning session.

The 21-year-old said: It’s a little disappointing.

I clipped a few hurdles and it wasn’t the tidiest race. I know I’m in good shape, I’ve been training so well these last few weeks.

“Andrew Pozzi and I, we train together, and these last three weeks we’ve put in some of the best sessions of the year so I knew I was coming here in good shape.

“Ever since last year, missing out on the Olympics, it was my goal to come here and make the team. Stepping out on the start and seeing all the crowd was amazing.”

Omoregie had been given his ticket to the worlds on the selectors’ discretion despite finishing fifth in the UK Champs in July.

But he was unable to get close to the season’s best time of 13.34secs he set at the European Team Championships in Lille where he won bronze.
