Defending champions Connah’s Quay will reclaim their place at the top of the JD Cymru Premier with a win tonight at local rivals Flint Town United.
The Nomads moved to within a point of the summit after current leaders and title rivals The New Saints were held to a draw on the weekend.
Connah’s Quay make the three-mile journey across Deeside tonight in good spirits after a steely performance on Saturday saw them resume their league campaign in winning style.
The Nomads found themselves with an uphill battle after falling behind to Newtown, before Jamie Insall was dismissed midway through the first-half.
But they were able to rally back as headed goals from George Horan and Michael Wilde turned the game around for defiant Connah’s Quay.
“Going into it on the back of that result is a great place to be in because there are not many teams who could go and do what we’ve just done,” said manager Andy Morrison after Saturday’s game.
The Deeside rivals will face each other in a competitive game for the first time in almost 10 years.
Flint Town United manager Neil Gibson previously worked under Morrison as first-team coach at the Nomads.
Gibson made a number of changes to his squad during the January window, but his new-look side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Penybont on their first outing since the re-start.
Jazz Richards is expected to make his Haverfordwest County debut as the Bluebirds look to build on their top-six position away to bottom-side Aberystwyth.
The Welsh international was unveiled as ambitious County’s newest signing on the weekend, joining as a free agent after leaving Cardiff City last season. A win for Aberystwyth could lift them out of the bottom two.
In the evening’s live game, Barry Town, fourth, face Penybont, fifth, with both sides looking to maintain their form after respective wins on the weekend. The game will be streamed live online via Sgorio.
Cefn Druids can move out of the relegation zone and leapfrog Newtown with a win tonight over The Robins at The Rock.
