Michael Flynn has urged his Newport County players to maintain momentum when they take on Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on Saturday (3pm).

The Exiles are second in League Two and, like hosts Oldham, are both unbeaten in five League Two matches since the opening day of the season.

Oldham are sixth and County manager Flynn says: “They have a strong team and it’s a tough place to go.

“I played there a few times in my career and I’m glad we’re going there at this time of year instead of December or January because it can really be a cold, dark place then.

“We’re going to go there to win. I’m not going for a point, it’s all about winning.

“I have a great group of players. They work hard for each other day in, day out and they back each other up.

“They have everyone else’s back. It’s important when a teammate slips that somebody else pulls you out of the mire. It’s a good trait to have as a team.

“This is the best squad I’ve had at this football club.

Newport are looking to secure back-to-back away victories in League Two for the first time since December, having won 2-1 at Port Vale last time out.

Robbie Willmott is still on the mend after injury and Flynn says: “I’m not going to put a date on it because I don’t know, but he looked good in training.

“Willmott has been a frustrated spectator for the eight games so far this season and he’s desperate to get back on the pitch.”

First team players Mark Harris and Jay Foulston plus the Academy’s Callum Brain have been called up for Wales.

Welsh under-21 Manager, Rob Page has named Harris in his side to face Liechtenstein and Portugal in the European Championship qualifiers.  

The two matches will take place at the VSM Stadium in Bangor on Saturday v Liechtenstein and next midweek v Portugal.

Harris will be unavailable for County matches missing both Oldham Athletic (League) and Swindon Town (Checkatrade Trophy).

Jay Foulston is with the Wales under-19 team heading to Ireland.

Brain is in the under17 Wales squad for their training camp in Newport. The 15-year-old has been included for the first time.
