Newtown Have Top-Three Potential, Says Andy Morrison Ahead Of Robins Clash

Andy Morrison believes Championship Conference hopefuls Newtown have the potential to push their way in the top-three ahead of his side’s visit to Latham Park tonight (7.45).

A win would take Connah’s Quay three points clear at the top of the JD Welsh Premier League, and Morrison is refusing to take the Robins lightly amidst a busy fixture schedule.

“After our 3-1 victory earlier in the season, a few people raised an eyebrow when we spoke about how good of a result it was and how good of a squad Chris Hughes had put together. Since that game, Newtown have shown with their performances and wins that they are serious top-three contenders,” he said.

Connah’s Quay turn their attentions back to the domestic league having reached the semi-final stage of the Irn-Bru Cup on the weekend. They also have another cup competition to content with this coming weekend when they host Cardiff Met in the Nathaniel-MG Cup semi-final.

Newtown have their own aspirations to consider and Chris Hughes’ side will climb into fourth should they overcome the Nomads as they bid to secure a top-half finish for the first time in three seasons.

The Robins have been dealt a blow by the news that Tom Goodwin is set to miss the rest of the campaign. The defensive midfielder is understood to have ruptured his achilles and is unlikely to return this season.

The club have also confirmed the departure of 21 year-old midfielder Jojo Harries, who has joined Mid-Wales League leaders Caersws.
