Newport Ladies will be looking to complete the quadruple when they head to Langland Bay golf club to compete in the finals of the Welsh Ladies Team Championships.

The winners for the last three years will be one of the 32 best ladies club teams in Wales and they will start as favourites with several Wales internationals in their line-up.

Wales Golf Championship Manager David Wilson said, “This eagerly anticipated event is one of the highlights of our season.

“The Langland Bay course sets up ideally for this championship and I am looking forward to some exciting matches over the four days.”

Newport will have to be at their best to retain the title, last year’s runners up Southerndown, are a force to be reckoned with and are keen to go one better this year. Should both teams win their first round matches they will meet in the second round in a repeat of last year’s final.

In the other side of the draw Wrexham, semi-finalists from 2017, will again be looking for a good run in the championship but will have to overcome a strong Pennard team in the first round. Pyle & Kenfig may be another to watch this year and their opening match against Whitchurch will be one of the highlights of the initial games.

The draw always throws up one or two local derbies with Radyr due to take on near neighbours Creigiau this year. Hosts Langland Bay will be hoping that local knowledge will help them to progress into the later rounds if they can overcome Haverfordwest in their opening match.

Langland Bay Director of Golf Andrew Minty said ‘We are delighted to be hosting this championship and are very much looking forward to welcoming all the teams and their supporters to Langland Bay. The course is in lovely condition and we are all set for a great event.’

The four day event starts on Thursday 21st June with the final taking place in the morning of Sunday 24th June. Visitors are welcome to come and watch this year’s finals of one of Wales’ longest established golf tournaments.
