Mitch Rose, Newport County’s highly talented midfield player, has been given the go-ahead to play against Morecambe at Rodney Parade on Tuesday (7.45pm).

But Rose, the brother of Spurs’ full-back Danny, is not completely off the hook yet.

The red card he was shown at Cambridge United has been overturned by the Football Association after County appealed, but there may be another charge coming later.

Rose was facing an automatic one-match ban after he was dismissed by referee Trevor Kettle during injury time at Cambridge.

A club statement confirmed they had asked the FA to look again and said on Monday said: “The appeal has been successful and Mitchell Rose is eligible to play in tomorrow’s match v Morecambe.”

But Rose knocked the red card out of Kettle’s hand in frustration after being sent off and any charge following that incident would be dealt with separately.

Josh Sheehan, too, is likely to play against Morecambe. He was taken off at half-time against Cambridge because of illness, but it is hoped he will be ready on Tuesday.

Darren Jones is again ruled out by suspension, while Sid Nelson and Scott Bennett could be fit.

Newport switched to a four-man defensive unit at Cambridge, but could return to a five in this crucial home match, which is County’s game in hand.

A win would open up possibilities for Newport, who entertain relegation rivals Leyton Orient in their next home fixture.
