New Llandudno Boss Williams Faces Difficult Start Against Barry Town

Iwan Williams will begin his tenure as Llandudno manager with a difficult test against Barry Town this afternoon (2.30).

Llandudno lie seventh in the table and are within touching distance of the top-six place but spirited Barry Town can go level on points with a win against the Seasiders.

Barry claimed a memorable shock win against The New Saints last time out and will be looking to build on that result back at Jenner Park following their exploits in Oswestry.

Iwan Williams, who was appointed as Llandudno manager earlier this week, is under no illusions of the task that will face his side down in south Wales.

“It was a fantastic performance for them and one that will live long in their memories for sure, but they will have brushed that off and become fully focused on us,” he told club’s official website.

“It’s been a tough few days in making the transition but as soon as I met the players and got out on the training pitch I felt at ease.

“I’m a big admirer of [Barry Town manager] Gavin Chesterfield and his assistant Richard Williams. They’ve kept more or less the same squad for a number of years as they’ve progressed through the leagues.

“They have implemented a good playing philosophy and in James Saddler they have a great leader and obviously one of the standout performers this season in Kayne McLaggon.

“It will be a tough encounter but we’re going there with the view of getting something out of the game and certainly a positive performance,” added the former Caernarfon manager.

Mike Williams’ strike separated the two sides in their meeting earlier this season and the Llandudno marksman is in line to make his 75th appearance for the club this weekend.

Admission via the Gladstone Road and Barry Road turnstiles priced at £7 (adults), £5 (senior citizens/students) and £3 (children).
