Connah’s Quay head into their Nathaniel MG Cup semi-final tonight looking to avoid a repeat of last year’s defeat to The New Saints (7.45).

Striker Scott Quigley, now at Blackpool, scored the only goal of the game at the same stage of the competition a year ago as the Saints eliminated the Nomads before going on to lift the League Cup trophy for a third successive year.

The winners of tonight’s tie will face Cardiff Met in January’s final after a late Eliot Evans strike saw the Students edge past Newtown last week.

Connah’s Quay won the League Cup trophy for the only time in 1996 in what is their only final appearance to date.

Quay boss Andy Morrison is boosted by the return of centre-forward Michael Wilde who is in line to face his former club.

The 34-year-old is a two-time League Cup winner from his time with Saints and returns after missing the Nomads’ defeat against Bangor City through suspension.

Wilde has scored in both of the two previous rounds as Connah’s Quay eliminated Bangor City and Airbus.

Wilde’s former strike partner Greg Draper is expected to line up for The New Saints.

Scott Ruscoe’s side are yet to face Welsh Premier League opposition in this year’s competition having advanced past Cymru Alliance sides Flint Town United and Caernarfon Town.

Young full-back Ryan Pryce could be in contention for Saints after completing a loan spell at Cefn Druids.
