Former Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra believes the club can start to climb the Championship table under new manager Neil Warnock.
Warnock has signed three previously unattached players – Marouane Chamakh, Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett – ahead of his first match in charge at home to Bristol City on Friday.
Chamakh became the latest of those to join when he agreed to a short-term deal until January following his release by Crystal Palace at the end of last season.
Chopra insists Warnock’s influence is going to be immediate and that the 67-year-old will prove the value of his experience in moving the Bluebirds away from the relegation zone.
“Cardiff needed somebody with a good record in the Championship and when it comes to winning promotions Neil Warnock is the man,” said Chopra.
“I hope he can bring success to the club and can get Cardiff back in the Premier League for the fans and the city of Cardiff.
“Neil is a true Yorkshireman and he is so determined. His teams always show fight and passion and that’s what the fans want to see.
“Friday night is a derby game because Bristol is just across the water. When I played in those derbies we always used to come out on top but this one promises to be a great occasion live in front of the Sky cameras for his first game.
“I’m sure it will be tremendous and he will definitely get huge support from the fans.”
Cardiff confirmed the signing of Morocco international Chamakh, subject to international clearance.
The 32-year-old – who worked under Warnock at Palace – had spent the last three seasons at Selhurst Park but managed only seven goals in 59 Premier League appearances.
“I’m so happy to be here and work with the manager again,” Chamakh told Cardiff’s official website..
“Cardiff are a side that should be on top and I think we can improve going forward. I’m looking forward to meeting with my new team-mates and getting started. I can’t wait to score for my new team.”
Warnock added: “We’ve signed Marouane on a short-term deal until January to assess his fitness.
“He’s a versatile player with pedigree and somebody who impressed me during my time at Crystal Palace.”
