Welsh 100m sprinter Mica Moore has been selected as part of the four-strong GB Bobsleigh Women’s World Cup squad – just months after switching sports.

She teams up with Mica McNeill after the duo and reserve brakewoman Anya Kay won four successive medals on the second-tier North American Cup circuit in recent weeks.

GB Bobsleigh Performance Director, Gary Anderson said: “We take great care in getting our recruitment right and to see someone like Mica Moore do so well just a few weeks after joining the programme is obviously very pleasing.”

Moore has been part of Welsh Athletics athlete support programmes since 2014 and was part of the Welsh 4x100m relay team that broke the Welsh national record in the Commonwealth Games final in Glasgow.

She boasts 100m and 200m personal bests of 11.65 and 23.92 respectively.

The new World Cup season kicks off in the first week of December in Whistler, Canada, with a further seven races following across North America, Europe and Asia.

British athletes will also compete on the European, North American and Intercontinental Cup circuits, with those competitions kicking off in the first two weeks of November.

Moore will continue to sprint in the summer months while she pursues her bobsleigh ambitions on the winter circuit.

“World Cup One is always an exciting week,” added Anderson.

“It’s where you see what everyone else in the world has done and where they sit and it’s great to pitch yourself against the world’s best. That’s what we have to do week in, week out now.

“The message I’ve got from other nations is that they are looking to see what Great Britain have done and they want to pitch themselves against us.”
