Merthyr Town 2, Redditch United 0
Merthyr Town extended their unbeaten home matches and climbed to second in the Southern League Premier Division table.
The Martyrs have earned 11 wins and five draws in 16 League fixtures at Penydarren Park, collecting 38 points from a possible 48.
Manager Gavin Williams and his team are right in the promotion mix and now travel to play Dorchester Town this Saturday.
Redditch United, who have former Jamaican international Darren Byfield as their manager, were put under pressure by in-form Merthyr, who scored first half goals through Curtis McDonald and Scott Barrow.
Ian Traylor had a shot cleared off the line after 20 minutes before McDonald put the Martyrs in front. The big defender scored after 27 minutes.
Keyon Refell went close when his deflected shot was tipped over the bar, while Barrow made it 2-0 just before half-time, firing home from a free-kick.
Merthyr used three substitutes, sending on Ryan Prosser, Jarrad Wright and Kyle Copp during the last half hour and stayed solid as a team to see out their victory.
