Matt Finish Earns Caernarfon Town Dramatic Win Over Barry

Caernarfon Town made the most of their extra man to pip Barry Town United 3-2 in one of only two JD Cymru Premier games played over the weekend.

Visitors Barry drew first blood through Michael George in the 25th minute when his cross-shot from the right edge of the box and looped over Hari Thomas in the home goal for a spectacular opener.

The Cofis had forced Barry keeper Luc Rees into a great save from skipper Darren Thomas before George struck and then levelled from the penalty spot in the 35th minute. Louis Lloyd hit the target after John Yorwerth had conceded for an of the ball challenge at a free kick.

To add insult to injury Yorwerth also picked up a straight red card to put his side under real pressure with 55 minutes still to play. Ten minutes later Lloyd made it 2-1 with a second successful penalty after he had been brought down from behind.

Barry battled back to get on level term six minutes into the second half when Ben Williams-Margetson picked up a loose ball in the area after a long range free kick and hit the target thanks to a big deflection.

All that was left was for Matty Jones to grab the headlines eight minutes from the end as he hit the bottom right corner of the net from the centre of the ‘D’ to earn the home side the three points.

Cardiff Met picked up two late goals to earn a 2-0 home win over Flint Town United to move up to third in the table. Ryan Reynolds smashed in the goal that broke the deadlock from the edge of the Flint box in the 82nd minute and then Mike Burke added an unfortunate own goal six minutes later.

In JD Cymru South, Trefelin somehow found a way to come back from a 3-1 deficit at home to Newport City and finally run out 4-3 winners. The visitors took the lead through Callum Bateman before Kavan O’Leary made it 1-1 at the break.

Louis Phillips and then Bateman again struck in the space of four minutes to give Newport the 3-1 advantage in the 55th minute and leave Treflin with a mountain to climb. But climb it they did, with Cian Goldsworthy leading the change with a goal in the 83rd minute.

Five minutes later Dylan Adey levelled matters before Kori Parker story the glory with the winner in the third minute of added time. The victory moved fourth place Trefelin to within five points of Trethomas Bluebirds at the top of the table.

In the North, Penrhyncoch played out a 1-1 draw with Guilsfield, while Llandudno had two goals from Mark Cadwallader to thank for their 2-0 triumph at Ruthin Town. Meanwhile, The New Saints cruised into the next round thanks to a 4-1 home win over Colwyn Bay.
