Glamorgan have moved quickly to turn Mason Crane’s loan move from Hampshire into a permanent deal.

The former England leg-spinner has signed a three-year contract.

The 27-year-old joined the Welsh county on a season-long loan from Hampshire and has been their best bowler in both the Vitality County Championship and Vitality Blast so far this season.

The attacking leg-spinner has picked up 17 wickets in Vitality Blast so far this year, having played in 11 games with an economy rate of 8 and has best bowling figures of 4/25 in the game against Essex at Chelmsford.

He is currently the leading wicket-taking spinner in the South Group of the competition.

In the Vitality County Championship, Crane has picked up 24 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul.

He is the leading wicket-taker among spinners in Division 2.

With the bat, he has scored 351 runs with an average of 43.87, including two half-centuries and his career-best score of 61 against Northamptonshire.

Due to his brilliant performances on the field, Crane has also been selected by Welsh Fire as a Wild Card pick for The Hundred 2024.

On signing his contract, Crane said: โ€œI have loved every minute since joining Glamorgan at the start of the season.

โ€œIt is a great time to be a part of the club, and Iโ€™m very grateful for the opportunity to make this move permanent. Iโ€™m very excited for the next chapter and the years to come.โ€

Head coach, Grant Bradburn on the signing of Crane: โ€œMason has been an outstanding addition for us in 2024 both on and off the field.

โ€œAs we look to begin a new era of success, Mason brings high level skill, quality character and experience that has all been such a positive influence for our squad.

โ€œTo see Mason really enjoying the environment and delivering impactful performances consistently, is a testament to the culture our players have welcomed him into.

โ€œWe feel very fortunate to have the quality of Mason here at the club and we look forward to building more success with him as part of our Glamorgan family.โ€

Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace, said: โ€œItโ€™s great news that Mason will be staying with us in a full-time capacity from the end of this season.

โ€œHeโ€™s had an outstanding impact both on and off the field this season and weโ€™re delighted heโ€™s chosen to make Wales his home for the foreseeable future.โ€
