Joel Makin’s storming run at the St George’s Classic in Surrey was ended in a quarter-final defeat.
The Haverfordwest-born player was beaten by Peru’s Diego Elias in the $106,000 tournament on Friday night.
Unseeded Makin won the opening set 12-10, but the No 6 seed reeled off the next three sets 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 to triumph in a 79 minute battle.
Makin, 23, had reached the last night after sending world No 1 Mohamed Elshorbagy crashing out of the Weybridge event in straight sets.
