#LoseTheBooze – Wales Fans Vote In Favour Of New Drink Rules

Wales fans getting in touch with Dai Sport have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a booze ban in the seats at the Principality Stadium.

After a huge response to our column condemning the relays of beer-carriers and toilet-hunters blocking the view and ruining the atmosphere at international games, Dai Sport ran a poll on Twitter.

The result was a massive 76 per cent backing for following football’s ground rules of only allowing alcohol to be drunk in the bar areas.

Now, we want all Wales fans heading to the final Six Nations fixture of the campaign against France on Saturday to tell us your experiences.

If you:

* are disturbed in your seat by fans carrying beer from the bars

* miss any action due to others shuffling past during the match

* have ale spilt down your back

* are forced to put up with drunken behaviour or foul language

* despair of feeling as if you’re in the world’s worst pub, rather than the world’s best stadium.

And tell us how the match played out for you.

  1. I have 3 issues with this article firstly and very much most importantly I as a visually impaired person who uses powerful binoculars to watch the game I love have on numerous occasions complained not at people going to toilets or the Bar but people jumping up and standing form long periods during what they perceive as exiting period of play however, I have been constantly told by not only stewards but by supervisors to stop complaining and even the police who are suppose to enforce the legislation around all seater stadiums which don’t allow for standing exempt for moving about have been abusive and surly. However, I don’t remember seeing one comment or article around the issue of inclusivity for disabled supported.

Secondly it must be remembered that the type of fans now attending the Stadium is totally different as the WRU has for years engaged in a policy of attracting non Rugby supports. The majority of people who now attend have never seen to a club or Superclub game live they are only attracted to big events and to their credit the WRU have made these matches into big Events for the general population, I’m not commenting here on whether this strategy is right or wrong but it just is.

Finally and less importantly while you have every right to publish your opinions etc. the poll must be put in to context with just under 300 responses is not a fair representation of either the thousands who attend or the population at large. Having said that I do not blithely ignore the valid point of the article as it needs to be discussed.
