Cardiff Devils are ready for ‘one heck of a match’ against Coventry Blaze at Ice Arena Wales on Saturday.
“Over the last few years, it’s been more Sheffield and Belfast that fans have said have been the rivalries, but, traditionally, Devils against Coventry is one heck of a match-up.”
Devils are three points clear at the top of Elite League following a 1-0 midweek win against Braehead Clan in Glasgow and are through to the Challenge Cup semi-finals where they play Sheffield Steelers over two legs.
Lord, though, is focused on the fixtures against Blaze, and says the fixtures aren’t getting any easier as Devils prepare for the weekend double header.
He says meetings with Coventry are every bit as tasty as clashes with the Giants and Steelers.
“It’s a credit to Elite League how deep it is now with 12 teams,” said Lord. “The quality has improved every year.
“Every night is a challenge and that’s exactly what we’ll get from Blaze. They play hard, there have some big defencemen who defend well, speed up front and goalscoring.
“We’re going to need to be ready for it and after Wednesday’s game at Braehead. It’s all about getting rested and refuelled.
“The last few years, it’s been more Sheffield and Belfast that fans have said has been the rivalry, but traditionally, us against Coventry is one heck of a match-up.
“From the time I’ve been here, it’s always been a good, competitive game and I’m sure it will be no different this weekend.”
Saturday’s match against Blaze at Ice Arena Wales (7pm) is virtually sold out, while the teams meet again at the Skydome on Sunday (5.15pm).
