Jamie Lewis’ Ally Pally adventure finally came to an end at the hands of Phil ‘the Power’ Taylor in their World Darts Championship semi-final.
The 26-year-old from Cardigan was beaten 6-1 after taking the first set against the vastly-experienced 16-time champ.
And it was that experience that proved crucial as Taylor reeled off six sets in a row to end Lewis’ stunning run.
Lewis, who had come through the qualifying rounds, had chances to take a 4-0 set lead but missed too many doubles.
Taylor punished him each time – and by the end of the match Lewis had missed nine darts that would have brought him set victory.
But he has banked £85,000 from his run to the last four – compared to his earnings of £18,000 from the rest of the year.
Lewis also claimed the scalp of number two seed Peter Wright in the second round on his historic charge to the semi-finals.
Taylor applauded Davies off the stage of the famous London venue having booked his place in the New Years Day final.
And Taylor said: “I prayed on Jamie’s lack of experience. He missed a couple of doubles but he had me the first few sets, I didn’t know where I was.
“He is a good player and now I’m retiring, he is the one to watch.”
