Laura Daniels admitted some loose play meant she had to settle for silver for Wales in the women’s bowls final at the Commonwealth Games.
The world ‘Champion of Champions’ title holder from Skewen lost 21-17 to defending Games champion Jo Edwards of New Zealand on the Gold Coast, having let a big lead slip.
It was Daniels’ first appearance at the Commonwealth Games, but she still has another chance for gold when she teams up with Jess Sims in the pairs.
Daniels, 32, had led from the start and was 15-10 up after the 15th end.
But Edwards fought back to trail 17-13, before Daniels was unable to add to her tally.

“It started off well and I managed to get ahead but at this level I know that is never the case for very long,” said Daniels.
“I never thought it was mine at 17-13 because I know the calibre of Jo.
“She came back at me and I had a few loose ends which probably cost me the medal.”
Daniels’ fellow bowlers Marc Wyatt and Daniel Salmon have guaranteed themselves at least silver after winning their women’s singles and men’s pairs semi-finals.
Wyatt and Salmon beat the Cook Islands pairing of Aidan Zittersteijn and Taiki Paniani in the last four and play Scottish duo Paul Foster and Alexander Marshall in the early hours of Monday morning.
Para-bowls pair Julie Thomas and Gilbert Miles lost to Australia 18-6. The duo need to win their next game against South Africa on Monday to guarantee a semi-final place.
