Llanelli Knights secured their first ever win at open age level after taking over from West Wales Raiders after overcoming a strong Rhondda Outlaws side 46-16 at Stebonheath Park.
Samuel Pridge made a 50 metre run to give Llanelli a 15th minute lead. Iwan Mayze converted.
Outlaws levelled on 23 minutes through a Taine Hendy try that Max Hendy converted well.
A Daf Phillips try, converted by Aaron Lewis gave Llanelli a 12-6 lead before George Freeman went over in the corner and Lewis converting again giving the home side a two-try cushion at the break.
Rhondda fought back early in the second half. Jordan Eynon scoring in the corner and Hendy converting.
But that was before Lewis notched Llanelli’s fourth try and converted himself.
They sealed the win with 20 minutes to go when Pridge scored in the corner before Jamie Davies ran over for Llanelli’s sixth. Lewis converted both.
A Rowland Kaye further increased the lead before Rhondda got an unconverted try back through Andrew Prouse.
But Llanelli’s Ben Rees got the final say with a try converted by Lewis to give his side the 46-16 win.
